REPUBLIC OF IRELAND
Motor tax changes came into effect on 1st July.
The following is quoted from the web site of Department of the Environment on 2nd July 2008 and we had this confirmed by telephone shortly afterwards
“What happens to 2008 cars registered
abroad and subsequently registered in
“Cars registered outside the State on or after 1 January 2008 and subsequently registered in the State on or after 1 July 2008 will have their motor tax based on the new CO2 system. Imported cars which were registered abroad before 2008 will continue to be taxed in future years under the existing motor tax system related to engine size”
For the avoidance of doubt we have taxed a newly imported Daimler 4 Litre since the legislation came into effect and can confirm the one year motor tax to be 1,480 Euro
